New Mexico owes much of its preservation to the Antiquities Act, which granted wide latitude to the Presidents to authorize National Monuments and Historical Sites. The following twelve National Monuments, two of which are now National Parks, have been created since the enactment of the Antiquities Act on June 8, 1906.
